Starting our Lorcana journey

If you met me you would assume that I was the type of person to play Trading Card Games (TDG) or collecting them, however that would have been false up until last week. I have always had the personality type that would be assumed that I play games like Pokemon, Magic the Gathering, or non-card games like D&D, but I have never actually played any of these. Not because I didn’t want to, but because I was a bit intimidated by them and could never find people to play with.

I never want to be the person that holds people back in a game, and these types of games tend to have people that have played for years and the idea of being part of that world as a beginner felt daunting. Enter Lorcana. In August of 2023 Lorcana appeared on the scene, I heard about it, followed information about it but did not venture into collecting or playing. I am a sucker for good Disney art and watching the information allowed me to see all the art.

In August 2024 I attended D23 where I got to see Lorcana up close, but still wasn’t ready to begin. And then a friend posted about beginning to collect and learn and I saw my opportunity. My chance to learn the game alongside other beginners and down the rabbit hole I went. I began getting a few sets when I was out and two starter decks. At this point I have the set up, I have the ability to film and to post and I have played my first game.

So here we are, beginning the journey of learning to play, collecting and joining a new community. I plan to document our journey of learning to play and collecting, posting unboxings and some gameplay. I hope to one day be part of a competition. I am excited to learn to play and believe this can be the start of me learning some other games also.

I will continue to blog here on Creating Magic, and also posting unboxing and gameplay on Youtube and Instagram.
